The Nepal side goes for the competition with high-level confidence following strong performances in recent warm-up matches in Oman, securing wins against both Oman and Qatar.

The ICC T20I rankings goodwill Nepal, who sit at 18th spot to Kuwait at 23rd spot. In their three official T20 international matches, Nepal holds the edge with two wins to Kuwait’s one.

Nepal Performance in Hong Kong Quadrangular T20 Series

Before this year, Nepal chased down the target in 18.5 overs with four wickets remaining to defeat Kuwait in the Hong Kong Quadrangular T20 Series. That match saw opener Kushal Bhurtel score a brilliant 81 runs, while Sompal Kami led the bowling attack with 4 wickets. Nepal went on to win the final and lift the trophy. Nepal also beat Kuwait by 7 wickets in the 2019 ICC Asia Regional Qualifier in Singapore. Matches between these two teams are traditionally competitive, and another close contest is expected this time around.

Nepal recently pulled off an exciting T20I series win against the defending champions, West Indies, in the UAE and now aims to make a strong impact on the T20 World Cup 2026 stage. On the other hand, Kuwait has yet to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026.

The Nepal Cricket team made history last year by winning the qualifier and reaching the Asia regional Final, and they will now look to repeat that success in Oman.

Nepal Made History on Monday Beating West Indies

Nepal made history on Monday, beating West Indies in Sharjah and winning a bilaterial series againts a Test nation for the first time ever.

After the 19-run win in the first match on Saturday, Nepal again played superb and won the 2nd game by 90 runs, taking unbeatble 2-0 lead in the 3 match series.

This is Nepal’s first series win over a Full Member, and it gives big confidence before next month ICC T20 World Cup Asia-Pacific Final, where Nepal will fight with 2 other teams for spot in 2026 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Aasif Sheikh (68*) and Sundeep Jora (63) made a 100-run stand for 4th wicket, helping Nepal to reach 173/6. Then Mohammad Aadil Alam bowled amazing, taking 4 wickets, as West Indies all out for just 83.

This was the biggest win by any Associate team over a Full Member. Skipper Rohit Paudel said he was very happy:

It took alot to beat a Test playing side, and winning series in just 2 games feels so nice. We wanted to show the world our cricket and talent. In last 2-3 years many eyes are on Nepal, and we want to continue and play more againts Test nations.

“We hope to finish with clean sweep and take this momentum into qualifiers for 2026 World Cup.”

The 3rd and last match will also be played in Sharjah on Tuesday.
